Open Letter To Our Loyal Customers
August 23, 2004
As most of you know, the NHL is involved in a pending labour dispute
that, on September 15th, is likely to result in owners locking out players.
This has thrown the fantasy hockey industry for a bit of a loop. We just
wanted to take a moment to tell you what our plans are and what we hope to
do in the event of a disruption in the NHL schedule. First off, unlike
many of our competitors, we will continue developing our NHL cheatsheet and
fantasy hockey projections. In fact, we are preparing to unveil a whole new
way to access them that we think will blow your socks off. We are very
excited about this! And we think that it will distinguish us even more in
the fantasy hockey projection market. Obviously, the release date depends on
the players and owners, but what we can say is that we will have Version 1.0
of the cheatsheet posted within one week of any labour agreement. Obviously
this version will be preliminary (because of all the likely player movement
leading up to the start of a season) but it will still be the most
up-to-date in the industry. As transactions and injuries occur we will
update the cheatsheet daily until the season starts. What will we be doing
in the meantime? Well, we’re planning on having some fun with other forms of
hockey. We’re toying with the idea of working with our radio partners to
offer a pool involving NHL players in European Pro Leagues. Or maybe we’ll
run a pool for the new (and yet to be finalized) WHA. I guess what we’re
saying is that we’re not abandoning hockey just because there might not be
an NHL season. So what does that mean for you, our loyal customers? Well,
we’re giving you an excellent opportunity to get the same great product
you’ve had in the past. It will have a new look and will be more versatile.
We think you are going to love it. And we’re also giving you a chance to get
it for a great low price. If you order our 2004/05 Cheatsheet before the NHL
and NHLPA sign a new labour agreement (whenever that may be) you will get
the cheatsheet at 50% off the 2003/04 price ($5.49 US). However, the instant
the deal is signed the price goes back up to the usual $10.99. That price
will get you the regular season cheatsheet (updated daily until the season
starts and weekly for the first month after the season) AND the playoff
cheatsheet. What if there’s no season in 2004/05? If the season is a
complete write-off, then we will just carry over your subscription until the
2005/06 season. No questions asked. How can you lose? As an added bonus,
if the WHA turns out to be the real thing, we’ll include a cheatsheet for
that league as well. It won’t be as extensive as our NHL cheatsheet, but it
will be something that will let you have a little fun. We’ll also include
the WHA schedule and some rules for fun office pools, just to keep your head
in the game. We, like you, hope that if there is a disruption in the NHL
season that it will be short. But in any event, Puckjunkie will stay the
course, and continue to provide the best in cutting edge fantasy hockey
analysis and projections. We look forward to being with you through the
course of the season, no matter how long it is. Thanks for being a loyal
customer and sticking with Puckjunkie. And as always, if there is something
you would like to see, drop us a line.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Kinney
