September Trades and Analysis:

Significant Transactions

TO: ANAHEIM MIGHTY DUCKS

TO: CALGARY FLAMES

September 26
  • Andrei Nazarov
  • 2nd round pick, 2001
  • Jordan Leopold
Analysis: This trade is all about the waiver draft, salaries and the development of young players in Calgary. The Flames have been very happy with the play of Mikko Elomo and Oleg Saprykin this pre-season. With Nazarov out of the picture, it makes it easier to have them both on the rosterwhile eliminating the concern about losing Nazarov for nothing. For the Ducks, the demotion of Balmochnykh is understandable, but still surprising. Nazarov will take over his 3rd line LW duties. As for Leopold he is entering his sophomore year at Minnesota. He's likely a long term prospect, but initial reports are positive about his skill level.
