Doug Weight Signs 1 Year PactSept 7, 2000 Doug Weight owners just let out a collective sigh of relief. The Oilers ownership group have made, what could be, a very lucrative offer to Doug Weight. Here it is in a nutshell. He agrees to re-sign for the same salary as last year ($4.3 million) and the Oilers add a number of incentive clauses to the deal. Analysis: Let's be realistic here. If Doug Weight collects a big paycheck at the end of the year, everybody wins (Weight, the Oilers and most importantly to Puckjunkie...those who have Dougie in their leagues). We think this has the makings of a blockbuster year for the #1 pivot. Will he hit career highs? Unlikely. There aren't many 100+ point guys anymore. But he could put up Top 10 stats...which would be just fine thank you. 2000/2001 Prediction: 77 GP, 22 Goals, 59 Assists, +12, 36 PPP, 198 Shots |
