Well…GM
Craig Button’s has gone on record claiming that there is no-one
untouchable in the Flames dressing room. This was duly noted by one Jarome
Iginla – as he has recently been hearing the same rumors we have - that
he is what the Sabres want if they are going to deal Peca to Cowtown.
Fantasy Impact: This is actually a potential deal that we like for
both teams. The Flames get a young solid two way captain – a leader that
they have been lacking. While the Sabres finally get a bona fide power
forward in the inconsistent Jarome Iginla. After a few years, and an
opportunity to realize his potential though, we would have to give the nod
to Iggy and the Sabres if this deal goes down. What is more likely is Val
Bure being the Flame that gets put out to Buffalo for Peca.
Phoenix: Reports are rampant that the
rumored three-way deal between the Phoenix, Toronto and Philadelphia is
ready to be made. The Flyers would get Tkachuk, The Leafs would get
Lindros and Lumme and the ‘Yotes would get Antripov, Berezin Markov and
the Leafs 2nd round pick in 2001.
Fantasy Impact: Well…HUGE! Tkachuk could finally concentrate on
playing hockey in Philly – here his style would surely make him a fan
favorite. Phoenix gets younger and better in the long term, and the Leafs
get what their media deserve – the circus that is the Big ‘E’.
Expect all these deals to really benefit their respective new teams. If
the Flyers were to add Leclair and Tkachuk to their lineup the impact
could be enormous.
Montreal: As we reported here weeks
ago, reports have the Canucks interested in bringing back Trevor Linden.
Reports have scouts from the Canucks down in Anaheim tonight scouting
Linden. Going the other way could be Matt Cooke, or a package of Peter Schaeffer,
Steve Kariya and a draft pick.
Fantasy Impact: Besides the sheer emotional impact of Linden
returning to the organization that drafted him, this could be a win-win
for the Canucks. If new Habs owner, Gillette, agrees to pick up even part
of Linden’s remaining 2 years and $7 million, our guess is that Linden
contributes like a house on fire for the first three weeks playing on
adrenalin alone. When the playoffs come, he’ll settle down, but he’ll
be more than happy to be back in Lotus land.
