Kravchuk claimed by Calgary

November 10, 2000

Igor Kravchuk was claimed on waivers by the Calgary Flames on Friday. After being chastised by ownership for not spending the money they freed up, GM Craig Button obviously feels that rather than sign Derek Morris, picking up Kravchuk (and his $2.5 million salary) is a better alternative. Now we just wait for the other shoe to drop. To avoid Kravchuk's no trade clause (and the $1 million price tag attached to breaching it), it seems the Sens pulled a Glen Sather and decided to place the d-man on waivers in the hopes that he would make it to the team that really wants him. Now we have to wait and see if Calgary was the intended destination. That would be confirmed by a transaction later in the day that says "Calgary trades Player X to Ottawa for future considerations". The plot thickens.
