TO: BUFFALO SABRES |
TO: ATLANTA THRASHERS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
The irony of this deal is unbelievable. But yes, three
years after a contract dispute, Donald Audette is back with the Sabres. Fantasy Impact: This is an interesting deal for the Sabres. Audette was brought in to do one thing - add offense. And he will do that. Look for him to get a ton of PP time. |
TO: OTTAWA SENATORS |
TO: FLORIDA PANTHERS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
Sens get a good faceoff man. Fantasy Impact: Not a whole lot of fantasy value here. But he could see some PK time. |
TO: BUFFALO SABRES |
TO: COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
A great deal for the Sabres. Heinze will contribute and
add some veteran leadership. Fantasy Impact: Don't expect Heinze to put up big numbers but he should be a contributor in the playoffs. |
TO: CALGARY FLAMES |
TO: ST. LOUIS BLUES |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
A very good deal for both clubs. Conroy is really a
poor man's Mike Peca who can kill penalties with the best of them.
Once he gets over the shock of being dealt out of the playoffs he will
be a very good leader. Stillman will get a shot to prove his two-way
value in St. Louis. He's been inconsistent during his tenure in
Calgary. Fantasy Impact: The Blues have completely revamped their team, but the addition of Tkachuk and Stillman will help them immensely. Stillman should thrive in the last few games of the regular season and he also becomes a very high pick. |
TO: PHILADELPHIA FLYERS |
TO: CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
McAmmond is a solid two-way player who will have a
solid third line role with Kent Manderville. Look for him to also get
some PK work.
Fantasy Impact: His stock went up somewhat in playoff pools, but don't look for him to rack up the points. |
TO: COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS |
TO: FLORIDA PANTHERS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
An interesting deal. Kevyn Adams is a faceoff
specialist and very good penalty killer. This is definitely a future
deal for the Panthers. For the Jackets they acquire a proven
goalscorer who has suffered through injuries this season.
Fantasy Impact: Very little impact this season. |
TO: LOS ANGELES KINGS |
TO: TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
A good deal for both teams. Mair will develop into a
solid talent and Berg just wasn't living up to the pressure the Kings
were placing on him. Those in Toronto may see this as a prelude to a
Lindros deal, but we're not sure. More than likely this is a deal that
is an insurance policy against Danny Markov's back injury getting
worse.
Fantasy Impact: Very little this year. Berg is not a point producer. Mair could be a good prospect pick, but he's probably a year or two away from contributing to your squad. |
TO: WASHINGTON CAPITALS |
TO: MONTREAL CANADIENS |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a good deal for both teams. The Caps gets some
playoff leadership in Linden and a very skilled player in Zubrus. As
for the Habs they managed to offload Linden's contract and pick
up a couple of very talented young wingers and a 1st round pick.
While the pick won't be great it will give them flexibility come draft
day.
Fantasy Impact: Linden will have some decent fantasy value for the remainder of the season. But look for him to shine come playoff time. He has the ability to turn up his intensity in the post-season and could pile up the points. Zubrus will benefit from veteran talent surrounding him and should shine for the remainder of the season and in the playoffs. Zednik and Bulis will miss the post-season and will probably slump a bit for the remainder of the year. |
TO: ST LOUIS BLUES |
TO: PHOENIX COYOTES |
March 13, 2001 |
| Analysis:
It should be noted that this trade is not finalized
until Michal Handzus undergoes an examination on his abdomen.
This is an amazing deal for both sides. We had
speculated that it might make more sense for the Blues and Coyotes to
leave out the middleman and make a deal between
themselves.
Fantasy Impact: This deal affects not only Tkachuk but Turgeon. Look for both player's production to jump over the remainder of the regular season. Come the playoffs, assuming both Pronger and MacInnis are healthy, the Blues jump back into contention, along with the Avs. Tkachuk's playoff pool impact becomes huge! As for Handzus and Nagy, they are now with a team struggling to stay ahead of the Kings for the final playoff spot. |

TO: PITTSBURGH PENGUINS |
TO: SAN JOSE SHARKS |
March 12, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This looks like a gap filling move for both teams. The
Pens still need to improve team toughness and Dollas is a capable 6th
or 7th d-man. Norton will help out on the Sharks powerplay until Gary
Suter returns and will also fill the 6th or 7th d-man role as the team
moves towards the playoffs. Hedberg is far from a prospect. But at 27
with solid European credentials he could be a back-up for the
Pens.
Fantasy Impact: None of these players are likely to have much fantasy impact either during the regular season or the playoffs. Although keep your eye on Hedberg he may get a shot with the big club. |
TO: NEW YORK ISLANDERS |
TO: NEW JERSEY DEVILS |
March 12, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a stumper. We can understand that the Devils
would like a veteran back-up going into the playoffs, but you can't
tell us that the Islanders couldn't have gotten more than
Terreri. Oh ya they got a 9th round pick (a pick they will be close to
the very last pic of the draft). No prospect?
Fantasy Impact: This is a great deal for people who've had Beezer languishing on their reserve lists. Put him up and hope he can pull off 4 or 5 games before the end of the season. He could be very useful. As for Terreri, he wasn't playing well in New Jersey. There's no reason to believe that will change on Long Island. |
TO: VANCOUVER CANUCKS |
TO: NASHVILLE PREDATORS |
March 9, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a hole-filling deal for the Canucks. They need
help on the penalty kill and they need some more toughness on the
blueline with Jason Strudwick out with injury. Berehowsky also has
some powerplay experience.
Fantasy Impact: Should play on the 2nd powerplay unit and get plenty of PK time. It's unlikely he will do much, from a fantasy perspective, between now and the end of the season. In the playoffs he could pick up some points but it will be hard for Vancouver to advance past the first round in the very tough West. |
TO: ANAHEIM MIGHTY DUCKS |
TO: SAN JOSE SHARKS |
March 5, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a tale of two cities. In San Jose the mood is
upbeat and the team is focused only on winning the Cup. In Anaheim,
things are more subdued. GM Pierre Gauthier has to realize that the
Ducks can't support two superstars (financially) and provide a
supporting cast as well. We wouldn't be surprised if Gauthier doesn't
already have a deal worked out to ship veteran (and soon to be UFA)
Guy Hebert to a contender for a couple of forward prospects. In the
grand scheme of things that would make this deal with the Sharks
easier to digest.
Fantasy Impact: This is a dream come true for Selanne and those with him in their leagues. He will explode in the last few games heading into the playoffs. Look for Friesen to get a boost as well because he will be teamed up with Kariya on the powerplay and may get shifted to RW on some shifts during even strength. Shields will be happy that he's in a situation to challenge for the number one goalie job but his numbers won't be spectacular for the remainder of this season.

TO: ST. LOUIS |
TO: NEW YORK RANGERS |
March 5, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a win-win deal. The Blues get a solid,
dependable blue-liner to fill the gaps until Pronger and MacInnis
return and the Rangers cut salary and get a prospect in return.
Fantasy Impact: Very little

TO: MINNESOTA WILD |
TO: NEW JERSEY DEVILS |
March 4, 2001 |
| Analysis:
A great deal for the Devils. We're not sure Eric
Lindros is going to want to come back to the Eastern Conference if
he'll have to face the Devils' "D" in the playoffs. They now
have four punishing blueliners now that O'Donnell joins Scott Stevens,
Ken Daneyko, and Colin White. This is a playoff-focused deal.
O'Donnell is a strong defensive presence and is the catch of the
second-tier players available. Mitchell is a good young prospect and
should fit nicely into the long-term plans of the Wild. The futures
probably depend on how far NJ advances and/or if O'Donnell
resigns.
Fantasy Impact: This is a specialty deal. If your team needs +/- and PIMs then O'Donnell may be your man. As for Mitchell, he's strictly long term and if you left him a year, you could probably still pick him up. |
TO: MINNESOTA WILD |
TO: CAROLINA HURRICANES |
March 1, 2001 |
| Analysis:
This is a deal that is a short and long-term deal for
the Canes and definitely a long termer for the Wild. Carolina isn't
getting the defenisive presence it requires from forwards such as
Gelinas, Brind'Amour and Kapanen and as a result, GM Jim Rutherford
felt he needed to go out and get it if the Hurricanes are going to
compete. For the Wild this deal was merely about turning an expansion
draft pick into long term commodities. While we were surprised that
they dealt a leader like Pellerin, we're not suprised that the 'For
Sale' sign is up in St. Paul.
Fantasy Impact: Pellerin will get plenty of opportunities to play (probably on the 2nd or 3rd line) and kill penalties. Look for a moderate increase in production, but not really enough to make a difference to your team. As for Rakhmatullin, he's definitely a prospect. |
