The September 28th
waiver draft should prove very interesting for at least a couple of
teams. Both the Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings have three
veteran goalies on their roster. Under expansion draft rules, they
will only be permitted to protect two. That means that in Detroit
either Chris Osgood or Manny Legace will be exposed and in LA, Jamie
Storr or Stephane Fiset could be on the move. There are a number of
teams looking for a veteran backstop including Vancouver, St. Louis,
the Islanders, the Rangers, and Atlanta.
Other veterans exposed include
Dimitri Mironov, Benoit Brunet, Dave Manson, Gary Valk,
Steve Duschesne, Uwe Krupp, Kirk Muller, Benoit Hogue, and Dimitri Kristich.
From a fantasy none
of the forwards are of much consequence. A player like Duschesne
though, could move to a team that would put him on the top PP unit.
The real value for fantasy leaguers is in net. It doesn't matter which
goalies move. They will be in a better situation than they are
currently.
Of the young players
exposed here's a list of who we think have a good chance of relocating
(in no particular order):
-
Josh Holden,
Vancouver
-
Jamie Allison,
Chicago
-
BJ Young, Detroit
-
Darryl Laplante,
Minnesota
-
Glen Metropolit,
Washington
-
Nathan Dempsey,
Toronto
-
Christian
Laflamme, St. Louis
-
Robert Dome,
Pittsburgh
-
Marty Murray,
Philadelphia
-
Alexander
Kharitonov, NY Islanders
While none of these
players may make your fantasy team right now, a change of scenery and
a chance to play could mean a chance to see them on a mid-season
redraft list.
