Alexei
Kovalev is back...back with authority. In his first two games since
returning from knee surgery he had two consecutive hat-tricks. I guarantee
you after the game that every player in the NHL was asking for his
surgeon's number. OK, maybe not, but still this is a fantasy leaguer's
dream and nightmare rolled into one. The dream is obvious - six goals in a
week (and he still has one more game left this week) is fantastic. The
nightmare is that there are many who didn't activate him this week even
though he had been projected to come back mid-week. Kovalev is a guy with
something to prove - hopefully he can prove it on your team.

It took the Rangers a couple of weeks to get
used to each other, but now they're looking like playoff contenders for
the first time in years. No one is playing above themselves. Everyone
knows their role. That means that Theoren
Fleury and Eric
Lindros are getting into a nice groove. It also means that Mark
Messier seems to have accepted a reduced role. And Mike
Richter? Man, he must have seen the same knee surgeon that worked on Alexei
Kovalev because he has been nothing short of amazing. Those of you
that picked him up in the later rounds of your leagues deserve a big pat
on the back.

Think d-men don't matter on a team with offensive weapons like Peter
Bondra, Jaromir
Jagr and Adam
Oates? Think again. The Washington Capitals missing Calle
Johansson and Ken
Klee due to injury and Brendan
Witt due to personal matters were absolutely annihilated by the Ottawa
Senators 11-5. Never underestimate the importance of defensive d-men when
you're deciding which goalies to play.
