Rangers GM Glen
Sather is on the prowl. With the great start his team has had, rumour
has it that he's looking to take the plunge with another high priced
sniper. And believe me there are a ton on the market. Where do we start?
How about the perennial favourites Tony
Amonte and Teemu
Selanne ? Amonte will not cave to the Blackhawks ridiculous salary
demands and is bound for unrestricted free agency while Selanne has worn
out his welcome with the Sharks. But new superstars are on the Sather
radar screen - Paul
Kariya and Bill
Guerin. Kariya is unhappy with the Ducks continued lack of direction
and the team is questioning why they should pay $11 million to a guy when
they can't make the playoffs. As well, Guerin is set to become an UFA at
the end of the year and has made it clear he's not coming back. Who's the
best fit? My theory would be that Sather would love to have Amonte playing
with the Blueshirts. He's a former Ranger and the fans would just love
him. He has no emotional baggage and he's not brittle. In fact, he's the
current NHL ironman. I'm not sure how much his stats would increase by
moving to the Big Apple, but it sure would make for a formidable PP unit
with Theoren
Fleury, Eric
Lindros, Tony
Amonte, Brian
Leetch and Vladimir
Malakhov.

The struggling offense of the Colorado Avalanche
could get a boost come January. Looks like Peter
Forsberg will be hitting the ice this week to see if he can be ready
for a New Years return. His ultimate goal is to come back for the
Olympics, but to do so he has committed to returning to the Avs first. The
next 7-10 days will be critical. If he feels good look for him to ratchet
up his on-ice training. A return to the Avs would not only be great news
for Forsberg owners, but you could look for a huge boost to the stats of Milan
Hejduk, Alex
Tanguay and Chris
Drury.

How bad is Martin
Brodeur's season going? He's had to fight off rumours that even though
Patrick
Roy has opted out of minding the nets for Canada in the Olympics that
Gretzky and Co. are still thinking about leaving him off the team. Ouch.
As Brodeur owners can attest, Marty has been just plain awful this season.
As we mentioned in October, he is a player that has the mystique of being
a great goalie, but often his stats haven't backed that up. Last year he
was tied for 21st in SV% and tied for 12th in GAA. If it wasn't for the
fact that he led the league in wins last season would have been a writeoff
from a fantasy perspective as well.
